An unbeatable team: DEKRA and webPDF
The internationally recognized expert organization DEKRA has started using webPDF from SoftVision to convert business documents into PDF.
DEKRA - A world-leading expert organization
DEKRA e.V. and its subsidiary DEKRA SE have stood for safety and vehicle inspections since 1925, when the organization was founded as Deutscher Kraftfahrzeug-Uberwachungs-Verein e.V. Since 1946, DEKRA has been headquartered in Stuttgart and is widely recognized as a leading institution in this field.
Today, DEKRA e.V. has around 25,000 members. With approximately 37,000 employees, DEKRA is active in more than 50 countries. DEKRA offers independent expert services for mobility, workplace safety, and private life. Beyond training and safety consulting, services include testing and certification of products and systems, industrial and construction inspections, vehicle inspections, and claims assessments. DEKRA also provides accident reports, environmental services, materials testing, consulting, and specialist publications.
With a strong focus on technical safety, DEKRA has achieved significant revenue growth in recent years. Over around 90 years, it has evolved from a vehicle inspection association into a global expert organization. With approximately 26 million vehicle inspections per year, DEKRA is a world leader in this segment.
How does DEKRA use webPDF?
DEKRA uses webPDF to convert Word documents and other file formats. There are two similar use cases with different PDF-generation workflows:
- webPDF is used to finalize documents when working with XFT Document Composer.
- In another use case, different file formats are converted for electronic personnel files.
At DEKRA's Stuttgart HR location, around 60-70 users work successfully with webPDF.
"Before using webPDF, all e-files had to be converted to PDF manually - now the process is much more convenient," says Stephan Weikmann (DEKRA HR / Internal IT). "Our collaboration with SoftVision Development started based on a recommendation from XFT GmbH. As an SAP partner, XFT had already used SoftVision solutions for a long time, which led to this successful partnership."
"Initially, we were looking for a software solution that could conveniently convert Word documents and many other formats. The most important requirement was SAP connectivity and direct conversion, especially as background batch conversion. This has made working with personnel files much more convenient," summarizes Weikmann.
Implementing webPDF at DEKRA
DEKRA especially highlights the strong cooperation with SoftVision Development: "The implementation went smoothly and SoftVision's support was consistently very good. During rollout, there were a few minor technical challenges related to our individual requirements, but they were solved quickly," says Weikmann.
"Overall, we are highly satisfied with SoftVision's support, and the collaboration has run flawlessly so far." It is also important that users were not disrupted in daily work. Because webPDF runs as a background web service integration, users are not directly involved with the software itself and therefore experience no interruption in their routine processes.
