webPDF 8 Innovations: Webportal (Part 2)
In this part 2 about webPDF 8, we highlight additional web portal features that were not covered in detail in our preview. Part 1 about installation and administration is available here.
For example, there is now a configurable news panel for the start page. In the demo installation, you can see all newly published news at first glance, and one click takes you directly to our webPDF blog. In your own webPDF installation, you can hide the panel in the admin portal or fill it with your own content, for example from your company.
Web portal: improved preview of external formats, such as emails
With webPDF 8, the web portal can preview additional formats. If you drag an email into your document manager, a preview is displayed directly. The same applies to files such as Word documents, vCards, and many other formats. By selecting the document tab, you can choose the file and inspect its content before the actual conversion.
Page list: direct operations and visual rearrangement
When selecting a multi-page document, you can display a preview of all document pages on the left using "Show page thumbnails". The thumbnails can be rearranged visually. You can also select one or more pages and perform direct operations, such as rotating, extracting, or deleting pages.
Search: text search with results list and navigation
The new search feature with the magnifying-glass icon lets you search entire documents conveniently. Results are shown as a list and allow direct navigation to matching positions.
Signatures: list and add (page or document level)
In the latest version, the "Signature" tab can now be used not only to remove signatures, but also to add new ones, either at page level or document level. You also get a list of all signatures with the relevant details via the "Expand all signatures" icon.
New editing functions
In the "Pages" tab, the webPDF 8 portal provides new functions to influence page appearance: background, header and footer, frame, and transition.
Add or change background
You can now change the background in any document. In the "Change background" dialog, you can select target pages and preview all changes.
Add and edit page margins/page frames
Using "Change page frame" or "Header and footer", you can customize your document as needed. In addition, "Edit page transitions" lets you create effects such as a page-turn transition.
History: undo operations via document history
Another important feature is document history. Via the "Show document history" icon, you can see all processing steps at a glance and also undo completed operations. This allows you to jump to any document state and continue working from there.
Show comments/annotations
Above the "Show document history" icon, there is also the "Show comments" icon. There you get a list of all annotations, which also supports convenient navigation within the document.
